Bitasyon is a contemporary dance work rooted in the spirit of the Haitian lakou — a living space of community, memory, ancestry, and survival. The piece explores the plantation as both a site of pain and a birthplace of resilience, where generations transformed suffering into culture, rhythm, and resistance. Through powerful movement, live percussion, and emotional storytelling, Bitasyon traces the journey from bondage to liberation, from silence to celebration.
The dancers embody the strength of those who carried the land on their backs while still finding ways to sing, love, dance, and dream. Inspired by Haitian traditions and the sacred feminine energies of the different faces of Èzili, the work moves between tenderness, sensuality, grief, motherhood, rebellion, and divine power.
Bitasyon becomes more than a place , it becomes a living memory. A space where ancestors walk beside the present generation, reminding us that even in broken soil, roots stil…
